Everyone and their Granny knows the name Remnant Kings. This family run Glasgow Institution, which started from humble beginnings back in 1946, is still one of leading sellers of fabrics in Glasgow (and Scotland) today. When you ask people of their first visit to Remnant Kings, it usually starts with a family trip – probably with your Granny, or Mum, when you were wee- to look for ribbon, wool, buttons etc; and ends with a lighter purse, a smile and a fond memory for life. To me, these lasting memories are what makes Remnant Kings so special.
When I first started sewing, RK was where I bought my first paper pattern. I hadn’t a clue what I was doing and had never heard of half of the notions which were listed on the back of the pattern. I always remember the sales assistant being incredibly patient with me as I asked a zillion questions. She also took the time to explain what interfacing was, and gave me tips on how to choose the best interfacing for your fabric. One thing that never fails to amaze me is just how knowledgeable the assistants are, and how open they are in sharing this information with less experiences sewers. So much so, every time I visit RK I don’t only leave with a full bag of fabric, but with lots of top tips to make my sewing life easier!
When I got invited along to the RK Autumn/ Winter press launch a couple of weeks ago, I was so excited to find some inspiration to get sewing again. Due to work commitments and a general lack of free time, my sewing has had to take a bit of a back seat. No sewing means no content which equals to a sad Wee & Twee blog. (Sorry guys!)
The evening began with a talk from director Lisa, and assistant buyer Hazel, going through the history of Remnant Kings and also the new fabric collection they were bringing in this season. Ladies and Gentleman, prepare to be amazed! The selection and quality of new fabrics being launch is phenomenal. With an extensive range of textures, prints and tweeds on offer, there is something there to suit everyone. Over the past few months, the buying team have been working extremely hard to bring customers modern, beautiful fabrics not just from the UK but internationally as well. Not only that but … (you may need to sit down for this one)… the will be stocking the FULL range of Liberty fabrics in their Argyle Street store. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!!!!!
On the night, they were also launching their new sewing hub which will allow them to run classes out of the Argyle Street store. The bright and fun room will be an excellent place for people to learn to sew or hire a machine to use for a couple of hours.
The highlight of my night was, aside from the cupcakes, the pattern cutting demonstration from one of the assistants from the Falkirk store. Make sure you record all you measurements, it will save you doing more work in the future!

There is so much excitement and buzz around Remnant Kings just now and it clear they are driven to improve the quality of fabrics and service they bring to customers. There is a special place in my heart reserved for Remnant Kings and I can’t wait to get my hands on some of that Liberty London fabric! Want to see more pictures and tweets from the event?
